VAUBAN
Vauban was born in 1633 in Saint Leger de Vauban in
Yonne .He joined the army in 1651, and became the King's engineer in 1655. In 1678 he was
appointed General commissioner of fortifications and he remained in this position, till he
died.He did a lot for the French army, (improved weapons and rifles...). Thanks to him the
French army got bayonets in 1703. He also rebuilt the fortifications around the castle and
the town of Brest. He died in Paris in 1707.
